Midwifery Network Online

A network for midwives, student midwives & those who want to enter midwifery!

I am a student in my first year. Yesterday I had the pleasure of delivering a sixteen year old girls little boy at 34+1 weeks old. She was amazing. When she first arrived she was adament that she didn't want to feel any pain and that she wanted an epidural as soon as possible. She was very scared and said that she didn't feel she knew or understood enough about child birth. I sat with her and explained everything, from the natural physiological process of birth and also the different pain reliefs available. To cut a long but fantastic story short, she coped with just entonox and breathing exercises and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. She felt so empowered afterwards and the joy on her face is something I will never forget.

I thought I would share this with you as it was such a great delivery and experience.

Great story, thank you for sharing! Was this at a Birth Center? I'm 16 too, I can imagine she was scared, it would terrify me.

Hiya, No, it wasn't at a Birth Center which is why its even more amazing. She was scared, but I think she was more scared of the unknown. I am guessing that you want to be a midwife???
